Merck grant kick-starts new ethical leadership programs at Rutgers Business School

August 4, 2009

The Institute for Ethical Leadership (IEL) at Rutgers Business School received a $25,000 grant from Merck & Co., Inc. The one-year grant will help support new programs in ethical leadership slated to begin in the fall of 2009.

The award from Merck will allow the IEL to provide decision-makers and future leaders with the education, training and critical-thinking tools needed to make ethical decisions dealing with real-world challenges.

Launched in May 2009, the Institute for Ethical Leadership seeks to create awareness and education about the importance of ethical leadership. As part of Rutgers Business School, the IEL is a resource for students and faculty, providing educational content and instructors for undergraduate courses on both the New Brunswick and Newark campuses as well as a course in Nonprofit Executive Leadership in Rutgers Business School’s MBA program.

In addition to its academic offerings, the IEL works with business, government, nonprofit and philanthropic entities to develop and strengthen ethical leadership within these organizations through Certificate Programs, workshops, lecture series and conferences.

“Our goal is to have our country, its people and organizations, accept and adopt a new way to measure, reward and recognize great leadership based on the evaluation of sustainable ethical behavior and sustainable organizational performance,” says IEL Co-founder Alex Plinio.

Partnering with the IEL, Merck continues to work toward making honesty, integrity and transparency a part of corporate and individual thinking everywhere. As a company with an outstanding record on corporate responsibility, Merck & Co., Inc., has made a true commitment to ensure that ethical behavior is deeply embedded in its organizational culture.

Rutgers Business School, the only school delivering business, science, and technology credentials, provides students and business leaders through the Institute for Ethical Leadership the resources to tackle tough ethical issues.
